Fiesta con San Lazaro

condado17 dec

December 17 the Cubans celebrate San Lazaro.  Mostly it´s a good excuse to party heavily.

This is the small village Condado in southern Cuba about an hour drive from Trinidad.  People come riding in from all over the region. The local salsa-band takes care of the music.. Plenty of cheap rum and a willingness to dance and have fun makes it a party to remember.

At the peak of sugar industry there were more than fifty cane sugar mills in operation in Valle de los Ingenios in southern Cuba outside of Trinidad.

The tower (from wich the picture is taken)  and the bell in top of it was partly used as an alarm in case of fire or escaping slaves.

A cowboy needs a ride

In Cuba the horse is still a common way of transportation in the countryside. This guy though had to conform with a two-wheeler this particular day.  Trinidad, southern Cuba.
