At the peak of sugar industry there were more than fifty cane sugar mills in operation in Valle de los Ingenios in southern Cuba outside of Trinidad.

The tower (from wich the picture is taken)  and the bell in top of it was partly used as an alarm in case of fire or escaping slaves.

The socialist party won the elections a couple of weeks later and Gjerg Harusha (to the left) had to step down from his local power position.

A collective taxi in Havana. follows a fixed route and the fee is close to nothing. Problem is that the Cubans often have less than that in their pocket.  January 30 2008.
