Life in Viñales


A simple day-to-day struggle, working their own small plantation. Not many material belongings.. they have each other.

As you can see this is not a planned family portrait. Otherwise the working outfit would have been replaced!

The land of Guajiros


When I go to Cuba I always find an excuse to visit the Viñales valley.  The bird flying in the center is a “tiñosa” (buzzard).

IMG_3602Yaniel with his precious rooster. He has been training it for months aspiring a victory at the cockfighting arena. Sadly the animal, if it survives, will not look so elegant after the battle!

IMG_2832Yaniel checking on one of his carrier pigeons. He lives in the house behind him with his mother and his maternal grandparents. The house is very basic but to everyone’s pride they recently have managed to cover the roof with corrugated iron!
