We are next! A cultural event at the Saranda sports arena in southern Albania. In just a moment these young dancers will step out and represent their province before the critical eyes of the jury, national television and a large number of spectators.

A last fix..

before entering the arena and the critical eyes of the jury and a large number of spectators.

Boy was I lucky to stumble into this event the same night (end of June 2012) I arrived to Saranda in southern Albania. Three days of cultural performances with representation from all regions in Albania.  I loved the atmosphere and I think I was the only foreigner present.

Old church on the hill!

It´s  a good idea to take a walk up the mountain above Dhermi and visit the remains of this old orthodox church. This is the place where you´ll find the largest number of churches per capita in Albania!

I have received different information about the percentage in the country of orthodox christians versus muslims etcetera. One source said 30% muslims 30% orthodox christians and 30% non believers.  The Albanians are discrete when it comes to manifest their beliefs in clothing or other symbols!

Market man!

A short encounter at the market place in Saranda a couple of weeks ago. I think this man reflects much of the Albanian character as I found it during my short visit in the country.. humbleness, kindness!

Albania The Land of Eagles!

A friend brought me to this place with caves and rocks and all the ingredients that makes a perfect beach! Before I could say woooow she climbed up and without hesitation threw herself out .

The eagle? well I put it there just for fun!  (PS)
